The Truth about our Thirty Fifth President By: Humberto V. Sanchez

One of the most tragic days in our American history occurred on the 22 day of November in 1963. That is when our 35th President, John F. Kennedy was assassinated. It was in Dallas, Texas, where our President was riding in a Lincoln Continental convertible along with the Texas governor for a campaign appearance, when the unexpected and most shocking event happened. As our beloved President was riding through Dealey Plaza, he soon passed the Texas School Book Depository and where supposed shooter Lee Harvey Oswald shot and killed him. We are left to wonder whether Oswald acted alone or if Oswald was even the real assassin. We are left to wonder if the government had any involvement in the assassination.
Who is John F. Kennedy? What type of man will people remember him by?  In the eyes of mostly every American John F. Kennedy will be remembered as a great, well educated, brave, caring  and a courageous beloved leader. He did not like to give up easily and was always determined to win and finish whatever he had started. This is how we shall remember John F. Kennedy.
Kennedy was born to a wealthy Irish-Catholic family. John had a great opportunity to attend a ‘catholic boarding school” (John F. Kennedy Biography) but growing up he was mischievous kid (John F. Kennedy). Despite being a mischievous little kid his parents always focused on education and his dad taught him to never give up. He continued going to school and went to Princeton, from there he transferred to Harvard. Kennedy finally grew serious about his studies and began to realize his potential. At his last year at Harvard, Kennedy’s senior thesis paper got published. His dad sent him a letter saying "Two things I always knew about you one that you are smart two that you are a swell guy love dad." (John F. Kennedy Biography). He had become a well-liked and educated man by the time he graduated.
After graduating Kennedy followed his older brothers’ footsteps and joined the U.S Navy. Following Kennedy's training with the Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron, he was shipped to war (John F. Kennedy Biography). Kennedy was assigned to command a patrol torpedo boat (PT), which is a small, fast boat armed with weapons, including torpedoes. (John F. Kennedy Bio.com). In August of 1943, his PT was rammed by a Japanese warship and split in two. Kennedy was badly injured his back and two of his men died. He led his surviving sailors to safety to nearby island and had to haul one of his wounded men by the strap of his life jacket, swimming nearly three miles (John F. Kennedy bio.com). This shows how brave and determined John F. Kennedy really was.
However, John F. Kennedys’ older brother was not so fortunate. A year later Joseph Kennedy Jr., who was a pilot, died when his plane blew up in August of 1944 (John F. Kennedy Biography). His parents had high hoped for Joe Kennedy Jr., his father even thought out of his nine children he would be the one to become the President of the United States. That’s when John F. Kennedy courageously stepped in and took his ‘family's hopes and aspirations for his older brother upon himself.’ (John F. Kennedy biography). John F. Kennedy is also remembered by his inaugural address telling the people “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what can you do for your country.” This shows how compassionate Kennedy really was.
Therefore John F. Kennedy took his older brother, Joe Kennedys, future dreams and his parents’ aspirations of him becoming the future President and took it upon himself and made it a reality. After years in politics John F. Kennedy ran for president against Richard Nixon. It was a close election, but Kennedy came on top and won to become our Thirty Fifth President. John faced many obstacles while office, but overcame every one of those obstacles. John became a well-loved individual to the eyes of the American people. Unfortunately, John F. Kennedy could not keep overcoming obstacles and fulfilling his full potential as his life was cut short at young Age of Forty Six. Becoming the youngest President to die in office. Kennedy was assassinated in cold blood in Dallas, Texas. He was shot while riding through Dallas campaigning for his presidency. John F. Kennedy only served Three years of his Presidents term. Now the people of the United States were left to wonder why? Who? And for what reason? The government says Lee Harvey Oswald was the killer, but was he the ‘real’ killer. There are plenty of conspiracies to what happened that day. It has been narrowed down to three conspiracies. The Government killed John F. Kennedy, if Oswald acted alone, or was Oswald the man that killed the President.
Many people believe that the government or the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) had something to do with the assassination of our president. The “CIA knew much more than it has let on” (Tasch and Kelly). Meaning the CIA knew more about the assassination then they said they did. “Report states that John McCone” who back then was the director of the CIA, “withheld important information from the Warren Commission" (Tasch and Kelly). The most important information that McCone withheld from the Warren Commission in its “1964 investigation, was the existence, for years, of CIA plots to assassinate Castro” (Agorist). That information could have changed the whole investigation around. Without that information, the commission never even knew to ask the question of whether Oswald had “accomplices in Cuba or elsewhere who wanted Kennedy dead in retaliation for the Castro plots.” (Agorist). Another piece of information was that the CIA only told the "best truth" about Oswald (Tasch and Kelly). For Oswald to be a complete nobody, like nobody knew him, he “certainly did seem to hang out with well-connected people," (Tasch and Kelly). It was known Oswald had ties with FBI and CIA agents. More people believe Oswald was the shooter but the CIA plotted the assassination on John F. Kennedy and that Oswald killed our president for the CIA. This is what people believe in that the government played a major role in this cruel and unjustified assassination.
It is believed to be said that Lee Harvey Oswald was in fact not the killer. People believe a theory of a man that was standing there on that dreadful day holding an umbrella on a “brilliantly sunny morning” (Naughton), they believe this man was the real killer. The man was standing by himself in the spot when the shots were coming in to the car. Some people believe the umbrella was rigged to kill John Kennedy. Louie Steven Witt is the man with the black umbrella supposedly explained himself to the people that the umbrella meant a protest. He covered himself by saying his umbrella was a “visual protest” (Naughton). “A protest against the appeasement policies of Kennedys’ father” (Naughton). Many accepted Witts explanation but others did not.
Others tend to believe Oswald was the real and only assassin in the Presidents death. They believe he acted alone. The Warren Commissions believe a motive could be he had a “Desire to get his Name in History” (Bojczuk). So he acted alone and fired the shot that ended John F. Kennedys’ life.
In conclusion, it was a sad day in America when our beloved, brave and fearless leader, John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. John F. Kennedy became a great leader to our nation and his death took a toll on many people. We will never truly know what happened that day on November 22, 1963. We only know what people tell us, or what they want us to believe in, only the stories they told to us. That’s how we have to live the rest of our lives, only wondering what really happened to John F. Kennedy. Wondering who was the real assassin? Wondering who took that fatal shot? Wondering what is the truth about our Thirty Fifth President.
