1. Why is there huge
underground facilities at Denver Airport?
2. What is the real meaning
of the artwork and murals created by Leo Tanguma?
3. Why are the airport’s
runways shaped like a swastika sign?
Let’s take a look at
Denver International Airport and the conspiracy theories surrounding Leo
Tanguma’s artwork.
Project 2
The
artist of the controversial murals, Leo Tanguma, grew up in Texas. A chicano
who made his first art piece, depicting children lynching the town’s corrupt sheriff, in fifth grade (Interview).
This came with some consequences, but it sparked a rebellious spark inside of
him. Since then, Tanguma has shared his talents by painting murals for ghettos,
public schools, universities, and even prisons (Interview). Using his murals to
voice problems in society, such as social issues specifically. With his most
controversial mural being displayed in Denver International Airport.
Many
interpretations have been taken from the murals such as “Children of the World Dream of
Peace”
and “In Peace and Harmony with Nature.” Some, go to the extremity of
claiming that these murals are depicting the rise of a New World Order
(Christian Social Network). To Tanguma these claims are just plain out
ridiculous. He claims that they represent that “I am Mexican-American, and very
proud of my community, our culture, and our historic struggle for social
justice and self- determination. I identify with other oppressed groups here in
the United States, and
with oppressed people everywhere” (Christian Social Network).
As
a rebellious teen in his earlier years, Tanguma mentions of having conflicts
with law enforcement. According to him, the sheriffs in Beeville, Texas, were
very racist. Leo grew up in a town where a minor incident of two parents being
concerned for their son’s well-being lead to the death of the father and two
other people who were just walking by, with one of the victims being a family
member of Tanguma (Interview). This was one of the many reasons that led him
and his family to develop a kind of hate for the system (Interview). Leo later
expressed this one day in a classroom when some of his classmates were drawing
on a blackboard. While he was doodling, the other kids around him gave him the
idea of drawing the sheriff being killed by him and his classmates. Tanguma saw
nothing wrong with the idea and proceeded to draw until he was caught and
punished. He believes this brought out the rebellious side in him (Interview).
Leo
Tanguma had a rough childhood that may have molded him into what he is today.
Coming from a place filled with violence and racism, Tanguma believed in a
better society that he now shares with the world through his murals. Leo uses
his murals to represent his vision of peace and positivity.
Project 3
Conspiracy
theorists have claimed that Denver International Airport may be a giant
military base, or even a massive bunker, just waiting to be used to shelter the Elites
of the world from a catastrophic event to later impose the New World Order
(Ferrets). With
mysterious murals and artwork in plain sight, one may think that these claims
may just be valid.
With
the first conspiracy being about the huge underground facilities at Denver
Airport.
In the early stages of Denver
Airport’s construction there were five buildings that were completely built.
Later it was decided that they were positioned incorrectly and it would be best
to bury them (Michelle Schenker). This has raised the question amongst conspiracy
theorists as to why the buildings weren't demolished as they usually would be
in any other case. Now these 360,000 square feet buildings are being used a
storage units according to airport authorities (Michelle Schenker). Some
theorists believe that these incredibly spacious “storage units” are planned to
be used as bunkers to house elites of society were the economy to collapse or
if a catastrophic event were to happen (Michelle Schenker). Then it is expected
to see the New World Order to come into power. These claims seem to have some
truth behind them but there is no actual proof to this theory. Who knows,
people do tend to make mistakes even when there is millions of dollars being
used for such buildings, right?
The
second conspiracy has to do with the artwork and murals made by Leo Tanguma at
Denver International Airport. Is there a deeper meaning to the artwork and
murals? The most eye-catching piece is “The Children of the World Dream of
Peace.” In this mural, there is a Nazi soldier holding a firearm while also
swinging a sword at a white dove, including children in distress. Another mural
is “Peace and
Harmony with Nature,” in this mural there can be seen kids mourning the
death of other kids and adults, while also depicting a wildfire in the background.
These murals can cause visitors of Denver Airport to become skeptical at first
glance. Add that to an already sketchy place and you get numerous ideas.
Another interesting piece is the “Blue Mustang” sculpted by Luis Jiménez, also
known as Blucifer. The 32-foot sculpture is meant to represent the wild spirit
of the old American west (Ella Morton). To others the sculpture represents
death, destruction, and bad vibes. Many Denver residents even believe it is
cursed by Jiménez, who was injured by his own art piece after having the 9,000
pound sculpture fall on his leg and later lead to his death(Ella Morton). After
seeing images of these art pieces most would definitely see a deeper message.
To support this, there was a survey conducted by me, when shown a picture of
the mural “The Children
of the World Dream of Peace” eighteen out
of twenty students believed there was a deeper meaning to the image.
The
third theory has to do with the layout of Denver Airport’s runways.
When viewed from above the airports runway’s seem to resemble a swastika sign.
This may have been a coincidence or it may have been intended to look that way.
If it were intentionally done there could be a connection between the mural by
Leo Tanguma, in which a Nazi soldier is depicted, and the airports runways.
Overall this theory is a bit of a stretch because it could have just been a
coincidence but there is also a slight chance that there might be a connection.
Out
of the three conspiracy theories the one that seems to be the most reasonable
is the first theory. This theory is a bit more realistic than the others
because, it doesn't make sense to have a multi-million dollar airport built and
have it somehow built on the wrong location. To have the buildings built you
would have to hire professionals and it seems far-fetched for them to miss a
detail that important. Then instead of being demolished they were kept for “storage”
which could be true. But if there were to be some catastrophic event, these
“storage buildings” would be the perfect place to seek for safety if you're one
of the worlds elites.
Project 4
After
examining Denver International Airport and Leo Tanguma, three conspiracy
theories come to mind.
1.
Why is there huge underground facilities at Denver
Airport?
2.
What is the real meaning of the artwork and murals
created by Leo Tanguma?
3.
Why are the airport’s runways shaped like swastika
sign?
Although
the artwork and murals can give off a negative impression and seem to have a
deeper meaning the most reasonable theory is that the underground facilities
are planned to be used as bunkers for the world’s elites in case of a catastrophic
event.
